You are invited to a presentation of the book Shadow without a Man and discussion with the author Nataša Konc Lorenzutti.

In August 1942, 645 Slovenian children were taken by the Nazis in two raids in Celje and transported to the territory of the Third Reich, where most of their mothers died in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. Around thirty of the toddlers, most of them still infants, had undergone “racial selection” and were transferred from the children’s camps of the Office for the Consolidation of German Nationhood to the Sonnenwiese Home in Kohren-Sahlis near Leipzig, which was run by the network of Himmler’s secret organisation Lebensborn. There, they could be taken in by prospective German foster parents who were at least ostensibly loyal to the regime, but did not know that they were taking in stolen children. This documentary novel about the children of war who became victims of peace is based on the harrowing testimonies of the surviving Lebensborn children and their descendants, as well as the author’s own meetings and conversations with them. Dr Ignacija Fridl Jarc will talk to Nataša Konc Lorenzutti, author of the novel published by the Slovenska Matica publishing house.
