The Terezín Initiative Institute (Institut Terezínské Initiativy) in Prague is organizing an online reading of the names of victims of Nazi persecution this year.
The reading of the names coincides with the Jewish holiday of Yom HaShoah, when in Israel at 10:00 all life stops completely for 2 minutes in memory of Holocaust victims.
On this occasion, with dr. Alenko Janko Spreizer from the University of Primorska, we have, for the first time in Slovenia, organised the reading of the names of Slovene Roma, who were taken from Novo mesto by the Nazis at the end of November 1943. None of them survived the war. Dr. Alenka Janko Spreizer, who is also a member of the Slovene delegation of the International Holocaust Remembrance Association (IHRA) and Chair of the Committee on the Genocide of the Roma, read 51 of the 77 names of these Slovenian Roma.
