On the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide against the Roma and Sinti, we cordially invite you to the commemorative event The Night That Silenced the Violins. The event will take place on Thursday, 30 July 2026, at 10:00 am at IntimniKino in GT22 (entrance from Židovska Street, Maribor).
The honourable guest and keynote speaker at the event will be Jožek Horvat Muc, president of the Union of Roma in Slovenia and the Roma Association “Romani Union”.
As part of the event, there will be a screening of the documentary film “Songs of Pain and Remembrance” by director Vera Kurtić (2025, produced by RomaniPhen e.V., Berlin). This documentary explores songs composed in Nazi concentration camps in Serbia during World War II. Through music, historical sources, archival materials, and testimonies, it documents an important yet often overlooked aspect of Romani history and cultural heritage.
Following the screening, there will be a brief presentation of the Ministry of Culture’s project “Connected Through Culture,” which aims to promote cultural participation and intercultural dialogue, as well as to preserve and promote Romani cultural heritage. Within the scope of this project, creative workshops, cultural events, and presentations of Romani traditions are being organised, which encourage the active participation of children, youth, and adults, and contribute to greater social inclusion, mutual understanding, and respect for cultural diversity.
The cultural programme will be performed by the members of the Loli Luludi Association.
