Slovenian victims of Auschwitz in Središče ob Dravi

14. 04. 2025
– 08. 05. 2025

On Monday, 14 April 2025, at 6 p.m., you are invited to the multipurpose room of the Municipality of Središče ob Dravi to the opening of the exhibition “Here Is Where Death Worked Itself to Death…”: the Slovenian victims of Auschwitz and a lecture by historian Boris Hajdinjak, director of the Center of Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor.

The Municipality of Središče ob Dravi celebrates its holiday on 11 April. The decision to have the local holiday on 11 April was made in 1955 by the then Municipal People’s Committee of Središče ob Dravi. The date commemorates the victims of World War II, or more precisely: the Nazis arrested 18 locals at the beginning of 1942, who were then shot in March and April, most of them on 11 April 1942. The date of the municipal holiday is also the day of remembrance for the victims of the Auschwitz concentration camp from the Središče ob Dravi area. The Nazi violence did not stop with the shot hostages. Relatives of hostages from the Središče ob Dravi area were sent to this camp: three men and seven women.

The exhibition will be on display from 14 April to 8 May 2025.
