About 2,300 people from Slovenia were deported to the Nazi extermination camp. This camp is one of the largest cemeteries of Slovenian victims of the Second World War.

The documentary exhibition “Here Is Where Death Worked Itself to Death…”: the Slovenian victims of Auschwitz will be on display in the lobby of Kočevje Regional Museum (Prešernova Ulica 11, 1330 Kočevje) from 13th of January to 15th of March 2022.

The exhibition tells the story of people from Slovenia who were taken to this camp. The majority were Slovenes, but among those deported were about 350 Jews, at least 78 Roma and at least one member of Jehovah’s Witnesses from Slovenia. Only about 1,000 returned from the camp, and for the remaining 1,300, Auschwitz was the place of death.

The author of the exhibition is Boris Hajdinjak. A short video prepared by Domen Kodrič was created during the exhibition. You can watch it here.

Attendance and participation in the cultural event will only be possible within the framework of existing measures to prevent the spread of covid-19 and subject to compliance with the RVT condition (recovered vaccinated tested).
