On 27 January, when we commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we cordially invite you to various cultural and commemorative events that will take place throughout Slovenia from the beginning of January until mid-February 2026 under the auspices of the Shoah – Let Us Remember 2026 project.
The largest and most notorious Nazi extermination camp Auschwitz was liberated on 27 January 1945, revealing the full extent of Nazi persecution and crimes. To pay tribute to the victims and with a commitment to ensure that their memory is not forgotten, in 2005 the United Nations declared the 27 January as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In 2008, the Slovenian government also declared this day as a National Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust. Since then, a multitude of Slovenian cultural, educational, and research organizations have been involved in commemorating this memorial day, striving to raise public awareness and educate the public about the horrors of World War II and its victims through their programmes.
