On Wednesday, 21st of December 2022, we celebrated the 700th anniversary of the first explicit mention of Sevnica as a square with a special event.
Srečko Ocvirk, the mayor of the Sevnica municipality, greeted the gathering, and the guest of honour of the event was the president of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, mag. Urška Klakočar Zupančič.
This was followed by an interesting and detailed lecture on the history of Sevnica in the Middle Ages and the 16th century by historian Boris Hajdinjak, who visited Sevnica at the invitation and initiative of the Trg Sevnica Association. The discovery of a hitherto overlooked document from 1374 on the loan of two Jews, Hačim, probably from Celje, and Iclajn, probably from Graz, to Sevnica resident and the mention of the farmer Judež from Stražišče near Sevnica in the urbar from 1448 were part of the lecture Sevnica in the Middle Ages and in the 16th century.
The event was enriched with pleasant music by the municipal scholarship holders Jeromej Kostajnšek and Eva Kotar.
