There is no other place in the world more marked by the Holocaust than the Auschwitz concentration camp. During its operation from May 1940 to January 1945, about 1.1 million people were killed there – 960,000 of them were Jews, i.e. almost one in six of the six million Jewish people that were killed during the Holocaust era. Among those who were taken to Auschwitz were 2,600 people from Slovenia. For about 1,300 of them, Auschwitz was the place where their lives came to an end, which makes it one of the largest burial ground of Slovenian World War II victims. For this reason, 27 January is also the Slovenian Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The original exhibition “Here Is Where Death Worked Itself to Death…”: Slovenian victims of Auschwitz by Boris Hajdinjak from 2020 will be presented at the Museum in Ljutomer through a selection of individual, thematically cohesive sections.

The exhibition will be displayed until November 2026.
