Dušan Šarotar, poetic images
“The Souls of Dušan Šarotar, who forebodingly settled in the photographs of clouds, are beautiful. They are extremely imaginative photographic records of clouds, created at a selected moment and in a state that is established as a given. Perhaps because they are caught in an unrepeatable desire, in fact, a longing for what can only be seen once and which will never be the same and at least not completely grasped. To show how the soul shows itself. Dušan Šarotar teaches us that the way he does it, the soul can be seen, but only with a specially developed sensibility and ability to experience it. At the same time, in the reception offered to us, the images of the soul that are created in this way often elude us again, constantly change and take on all kinds of patterns. It is precious that they simply reveal themselves to Šarotar, offer themselves to him to capture them in the photographer’s eye. It is further left to the imagination and phantasmagorical media whether we can recognize unique metamorphoses and countless associative phenomena in them. Their transformations are the result of transience and are at the same time a guarantee of the metaphysical. Since they only appear for a moment, the testimony of an unrepeatable moment must be petrified as a photographic image. The path to where one does not walk, only stalks, is at the same time astonishingly far and shockingly close. Only faith and the ability to believe in the existence of souls are necessary to unfold the spiritual registers of their perception.” dr. Janez Balažic (from the entry in the catalogue)
