The lecture “The fate of Prekmurje Jews in the works of Primo Levi, Elie Wiesel and Imre Kertész“, which will be held on Tuesday 14th of February 2023, at 18:00 in the Murska Sobota Regional and Study Library (Zvezna ulica 10).
Boris Hajdinjak, director of Synagogue Maribor, will give a lecture.
One of the reasons for today’s level of awareness of the significance of the Holocaust in history is the works of writers who survived it. The most famous are Primo Levi (1919, Turin–1987, Turin), Elie Wiesel (1928, Sighetu Marmației–2016, New York), also Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 1986, and Imre Kertész (1929, Budapest–2016, Budapest), also a Nobel laureate for literature in 2002. The lecture will discuss their fate during the Holocaust and explain to what extent their experience affects the fate of Prekmurje Jews.
The lecture is part of the European Never Forget project. The lecture is co-financed by the European Union. The views and opinions expressed belong exclusively to the organizer and do not reflect those of the European Union or the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), therefore the European Union and the client do not assume responsibility for their content.
