Aleksander Pečerski and Sobibor

Exhibition opening and movie screening

17 January 2019, 18:00

On 14 October 1946 more than 400 prisoners, led by Jewish Alexander Pečerski, started a mutiny in the destruction camp Sobibor. After the mass escape most of the prisoners were caught and killed, only around 50 survived. Nonetheless, this was the most successful prison break from a death camp in World war 2.

We would like to incite you to join us on Thursday, 17 January 2019, at 18:00 in the Maribor Synagogue (Židovska ulica 4) at the opening of the exhibition about Soviet officer Alexander Pečerski and a screening of the Russian war movie Sobibor (directed by Konstantin Habenski, 2018).

This event will officially start this year’s International Holokavst Remembrance Day, which will be under the wing of project Shoah - Let US Remember 2019 in Slovenia. The Honorary sponsor of Shoah - Let US Remember 2019 in Minister of Culture of Republic of Slovenia Dejan Prešiček.
