One of the most eminent Slovenian poets – France Prešeren died on 8 February 1849, thus the anniversary of his death is marked each year with the Slovenian National Day of Culture. On this occasion many museum, galleries and other cultural institutions in Slovenia organise an Open Doors Day.
This year’s Slovenian Day of Culture will be in the Center of Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor marked already on Friday, 7 February. In the frame of the open doors day, visitors will be able to visit the former Jewish synagogue as well as current documentary exhibition Roma on the Move free of charge. The exhibition Roma on the Move acquaints us with Roma history respectively history of Roma migration to Europe, as well as with Roma culture and language, history of Roma in Slovenia and finally with so-called Porrajmos – the forgotten genocide that was committed on Roma during WWII.
