Anthology of Modern Hebrew Literature

The term modern Hebrew literature was first restricted to the period after the appearance of the Age of Enlightenment, then to the time after the origin of the Zionist movement, and later on after the Establishment of the State of Israel. Nowadays in Israel literature still originates in Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, English, and Yiddish, if we list only the most important. This anthology is limited to presentation of authors since the formation of the State of Israel, all of them, including the most contemporary generations, being still strongly politically and socially engaged; including poets and writers like A. B. Yeshua, Sami Mihael, Amos Oz, David Grossman, etc.

The anthology will be presented by its editor and translator, Klemen Jelinčič Boeta, and Dušan Šarotar, a poet and writer who is investigating his own Jewish roots. The presentation will be moderated by Gašper Troha, PhD, Vilenica International Literary Festival Programme Director.

The presentation shall be part of events of the Department of Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of Israel within the project Maribor 2012 – European Capital of Culture.
